Capacity & Consent
The GMC and BMA both issue comprehensive guide to consent for General Practitioners and this toolkit does not seek to replicate these. What is included here is intended as a quick reference to the issues that need to be considered when thinking about capacity and consent and to signpost to some of the excellent resources already available when they are thinking about seeking consent from the person to -
- an examination or investigation,
- onward referral,
- information sharing,
- and any other intervention a GPs may make with, or on behalf of, their patients.
A Case study example is available to support this information - Capacity to consent to a referral.
